Composer and pianist Marika Takeuchi, a native of Japan, began studying classical music at the tender age of three and continued into post-secondary educational when she studied film scoring and composition in both Japan and at Berklee College of Music, Boston. Her music has been featured in many short films and advertisements internationally. She has worked on a wide variety of projects as a composer, pianist, orchestrator, arranger and educator. Marika’s music is emotive, romantic, passionate, warm and sensitive. Her body of work generally features piano and is lushly scored, creating a Hollywood, orchestral sound, reminiscent to that of Oscar winning composer, Dave Gruisin. Marika has scored numerous inspiring, independent short films, such as “The Arctic Light”, the acclaimed time-lapse film; a short film about a summer enrichment program “Horizons: 50 years” and “More Than One”, an acclaimed short drama.
